So here’s the story. My husband and kids were out of town and I was left at home all alone for two whole days. Any DIYer knows this is HEAVEN on earth amiright!?!? My plans to update our bathroom to make it lighter and brighter by painting the walls and possibly switching out the mirror quickly escalated when I found myself in the tile isle at Home Depot.

Needless to say the whole bathroom got a BIG update. It was surprisingly budget friendly and super easy to update everything, Heck I did it all on my own!

If you followed along through my instagram stories you are probably dying to see the finished product. I’m so excited to finally share it with all of you !!

Update your Bathroom on a Budget

When it comes to sticking to a budget and updating a bathroom or any room for that matter while still making a big impact is paint.  You can see the impact it made here in our bathroom. Going from a cream/yellowish color on the walls to a fresh white made a huge difference. Oh friends, and that’s when I got the itch to than paint the vanity, change the mirror, paint the fixtures and re-tile the floor.

I will be honest here re-tiling the floors was the one thing I was most worried about doing. I have never tiled or done anything with floors and I was afraid it would break my budget. But I think we could all agree those old floors had to go. Thank you to YouTube and the employees at the hardware store for showing me how to do it. Did you know you can grout peel and stick tiles and it makes them look like real tiles!

Since the vanity was still in good working condition I decided to paint it a nice navy blue. With the addition of the gold drawer knobs it looks like a brand new vanity. I got this look for roughly $50 that is a measly amount considering a new vanity could have easy run upwards to $1,000 or more.

To stick within the budget it made more sense just to paint the bathroom fixtures. I used my fav flat black Rust-Oleum flat spray paint to paint the shower curtain rings, light fixture, door knob, towel rack and toilet paper holder. I love the look of black hardware, it tied everything together and made it look complete!

Decorating can and should be simple in small spaces like the bathroom

This bathroom is mainly used by our daughters aged between 2-17.  When it came to accessories I wanted to make it fun and functional for the whole girl gang.  I went with a floral shower curtain to bring a pop of color and whimsy to the room. Then added in touches of floral here and there and containers that help to add texture, color and functionality. I don’t like clutter so the the majority of all their “girl stuff” is stored under the sink.

  • Over Toilet Shelf – This added a bit of space for the older girls that is out of reach of lil sis. I loved the look that the natural wood added to the room.
  • Toothbrush Holder – I searched the stores and could not find one that I loved. So naturally I made one. It was super simple to make, the mason jar holds all their tooth brushes and tooth paste. Hoping to do a DIY of this soon.
  • Snake Plant – It’s no secret that I have turned into a self proclaimed plant lady. Aside from all the great benefits that Snake plants have to offer (it emits oxygen and filters other toxins from the air such as benzene, xylene and formaldehyde) they are one of the only plants that will grow in low light, such as in a bathroom.
  • Small Wire basket – Part function and part style. Great place to store extra toilet paper and hand towel.
  • Small Glass Jars – Livi and I found these gems at a local antique store. I filled them with faux floral to tie in the floral from the shower curtain.
  • Candle holders – I had these on hand and the color fit perfect. They are just the right size to hold cotton balls and q tips.
  • Catch All Tray –  Another easy diy that I did. They make the perfect place to throw chap stick, bracelets, hair ties ect before jumping in the shower.
